Junior Cohort (13-15)

Duration: 8 weeks

 

Schedule: Two 45‑minute online classes per week

Week 1 — Foundations & Setup
Students learn what data analytics is, explore the Databricks workspace, and create their first Python notebook using simple print statements and variables.

Week 2 — Python Logic
Students learn lists, dictionaries, loops, and conditionals, then build a fun Teen Survey Analyzer that prints insights from a small dataset.

Week 3 — Pandas & Visualization
Students import age‑appropriate datasets into Databricks, clean messy data using pandas, and create simple charts using Matplotlib.

Week 4 — SQL Fundamentals
Students learn SQL basics inside Databricks SQL Warehouse and run their first queries on Delta tables.

Week 5 — Intermediate SQL + Joins
Students learn simple joins and aggregates, then complete a guided Data Story Project using SQL results.

Week 6 — Tableau Fundamentals
Students learn chart design principles, connect Tableau directly to Databricks, and build their first polished visuals.

Week 7 — Dashboard Design
Students design and publish a complete Tableau dashboard using live Databricks data.

Weeks 7–8 — Capstone Project
Students combine Python, SQL, and Tableau to build a final capstone project and present it during showcase week.

Senior Cohort (16-18)

Duration: 8 weeks

Schedule: Two 45‑minute online classes per week

Week 1 — Foundations & Setup

Students learn the modern data lifecycle, explore the Databricks workspace, upload their first dataset, and complete a structured Python notebook using variables, f‑strings, and simple functions.

Week 2 — Python for Analytics

Students build analytical scripts using functions, loops, dictionaries, and reusable logic patterns. They complete a mini‑project that processes structured data and saves results to Delta Lake.

Week 3 — Pandas + Data Cleaning

Students wrangle real datasets inside Databricks, handle missing values, normalize columns, write cleaned data to Delta Lake, and create multi‑chart visualizations using Matplotlib and Seaborn.

Week 4 — SQL Fundamentals

Students learn SQL basics inside Databricks SQL Warehouse and integrate SQL queries directly into Python using spark.sql(). They convert SQL results to pandas and export them for Tableau.

Week 5 — Intermediate SQL + Joins

Students perform JOINs, GROUP BY operations, and basic modeling patterns to create new Delta tables. They build a structured data story using SQL results and write insights in notebook markdown.

Week 6 — Tableau Visualization Principles

Students design advanced visuals using color theory, layout, and storytelling techniques. They connect Tableau directly to Databricks and build polished worksheets using live SQL Warehouse data.

Week 7 — Dashboard Building

Students build and publish a full Tableau dashboard with filters, interactivity, multi‑sheet design, and KPI storytelling. They finalize their capstone outline and dataset selection.

Students finalize their analytics capstone project — combining Python analysis, SQL modeling, and a Tableau dashboard — and present it during showcase week.

What is the difference between the Junior and Senior cohorts?

The Junior Cohort is built for ages 13–15 and focuses on confidence, foundations, and structured learning. Students work with age‑appropriate datasets (games, music, movies) and learn Python, SQL, and Tableau through guided steps and repetition. The pace is intentionally supportive: more scaffolding, more visual learning, and more instructor‑led walkthroughs. Their projects are smaller but meaningful, and the capstone presentation is a 3–5 minute showcase that helps them feel proud of what they’ve built.

The Senior Cohort (ages 16–18) mirrors a real analytics workflow. Students tackle more complex datasets, write functions in Python, perform deeper SQL joins and aggregates, and build advanced Tableau dashboards with KPIs and storytelling elements. They work more independently, think more critically, and produce a polished, college‑ready capstone project. Their final presentation runs 5–7 minutes and emphasizes insights, clarity, and professional communication.

How do I know which track is right for my teen?

The right track depends on your teen’s age, confidence level, and how independently they like to work. The Junior Cohort is ideal for ages 13–15 who are new to coding or prefer a more guided, step‑by‑step learning style. It uses teen‑friendly datasets (games, music, movies) and builds skills gradually through repetition and structured support. If your teen thrives with encouragement, likes clear instructions, or is still building academic confidence, Junior is the perfect fit.

The Senior Cohort is designed for ages 16–18 who are ready for deeper logic, more independence, and more complex projects. Seniors work with real‑world datasets, write functions, build advanced dashboards, and create a polished capstone suitable for college applications. If your teen enjoys problem‑solving, wants a challenge, or is preparing for STEM pathways, the Senior track will feel exciting and appropriately rigorous.

If your teen is between ages or you’re unsure, choose the cohort that matches their confidence and learning style, not just their age.

What are the enrollment requirements?

Students need a reliable internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer. No prior coding experience is required for the Junior track. The Senior track benefits from basic logical thinking skills. All software used is open source and is free of charge.

Can we switch cohorts after classes begin?

Because each cohort is capped at no more than 12 students, we don’t move teens between groups once the 8‑week cohort has started. Small cohorts rely on stable group dynamics, consistent pacing, and strong instructor attention, and switching mid‑cohort would disrupt both the student and the rest of the class.

If a student decides to switch before the cohort begins, we can move the student into the other cohort as long as space is available. The senior cohort price is higher than the junior cohort so the extra cost would need to be paid before the class starts. Likewise, if a student moves from the senior cohort to the junior cohort a partial refund of the difference will be given.  Once classes have started, we don’t move students. Again, this all relies upon the available space in the cohorts.
